Short one today, Vortexers. I'm pulling one out of the drawer.
Cue girly-scream.
This novel was my close-call, my agented one, my attended-the-major-publishing-house-editorial-meeting one, my doesn't-fit-what-we-publish one. Three years does a lot for perspective. And experience. And voice. They were right. It wasn't quite ready. But it will be.
This news story stayed with me yesterday, not because Titanic is cycling on the movie channels or because it's yet another way for commercialism to find a foothold in tragedy, but because of the human element-as it has always been with the subject. For many, it will complete the journey their ancestors never did.
Other Titanic mentions at The Vortex
EEEAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhh <girly scream.
I think 3 years is about right for a concerted deep look again at a manuscript. Good luck with that Laura.
I don't know, maybe it is just a different mindset but I don't see any justification for the Titanic Memorial cruises other than as recreation. I do believe it is not so much an homage voyage as a cash stream for the ship lines. But then I would not condemn it either if at least a few of the folks feel they are accomplishing something. Of course June might be more thrilling in the North Atlantic when hurricane season starts and the water isn't as willing to let things ride her back.
Sounds intriguing. Inquiring minds want to know more!
@WM...the whole money-juggernaut of it did turn my stomach a bit, too. But then I pictured a silent, reverent memorial service on the decks at 2:00 am that morning and it made me want to be there for a bit.
@Charles...And more you shall have. A heaping dollup along with snark 😉
